Hong Kong shirts "not foreign"

HIRTS coming to Britain from Hong Kong are made from locally spun yarn or yarn originating within the Empire, mostly from England.
The Hong Kong Government office said that last night, and added that to qualify for imperial preference the shirts must show an Empire content of at least 25 per cent. Most shirts had an Empire content of 60 per cent.

It would be quite impossible for Japanese shirts to be sent to this country from Hong Kong under claim to imperial prefer- ence," added the statement, which referred to reports that the Hong Kong shirts would soon be on sale here at about 7s.
"There are 395 registered textile factories in Hong Kong, producing all types of textiles, including these shirts, and em- playing a labour force of between 13,000 and 20,000. Hong Kong workers are the highest paid in the Far East.”
